Churchill County takes down South Tahoe in a playoff battle

With a playoff game on the line, the Churchill County Greenwave rose to the challenge on Monday. They came out on top against the Vikings by a score of 61-49. The victory was just what Churchill County needed coming off of a 53-24 defeat in their prior contest.

Leading Churchill County to victory were Jada Anastasio and Vernita Fillmore. Anastasio scored 12 points along with five assists, while Fillmore scored 13 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Fillmore has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Zoey Jarrett, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

South Tahoe's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Campbell Mathews, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Mathews hasn't dropped below 16 points for eight straight games. Samantha Robinson was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.

Churchill County pushed their record up to 19-7 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points per game. As for South Tahoe, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-10.

Churchill County will square off against Fernley at 6:20 p.m. on Friday. Fernley will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something Churchill County surely won't give up without a fight. South Tahoe does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
