Preview: Mt. Carmel Sundevils vs. Mission Bay Buccaneers
The Mt. Carmel Sundevils will head out on the road to face off against the Mission Bay Buccaneers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Mt. Carmel sitting on three straight victories and Mission Bay on five.
Mt. Carmel scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They managed a 104-100 win over Cathedral Catholic. The victory was all the more spectacular given Mt. Carmel's disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 489th, while Cathedral Catholic is ranked 124th).
Mt. Carmel got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Gianni Bernabe out in front who scored 37 points. Bernabe hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Raymond Hourani, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 20 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Mission Bay made easy work of Helix on Wednesday and carried off a 71-51 win.
Mt. Carmel pushed their record up to 4-5 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 81.3 points per game. As for Mission Bay, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
