Softball Recap: Mercersburg Academy Storm vs. Saint James Saints

Mercersburg Academy extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 6-11 in the process. They lost 13-6 to the Saint James Saints. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Saints this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-3 back in April.

Adi Rinker was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one double. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Emily Guzic was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

As for Saint James, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.

On Saint James' side, Lily Schlotterbeck ?26 was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 18 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Schlotterbeck ?26 has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Everett Sechler ?26 was a standout: she fired off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Tenley Mullendore ?27, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with four stolen bases and four runs.

Mercersburg Academy didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 17-1 victory against Peddie on the 10th. Saint James does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
