Basketball Recap: AJ Palacios' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Nixon over Mcallen

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Nixon couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They took a 62-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the McAllen Bulldogs. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2021.

Nixon's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was AJ Palacios, who went 6-for-13 on his way to 17 points and four steals. Uli Torres was another key player, going 7-for-10 to rack up 14 points along with eight boards and seven assists.

McAllen's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dylan Gonzalez, who went 6-for-10 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points. Another player making a difference was D'aundre Canada, who went 8-for-13 on his way to 16 points and six rebounds.

Nixon's loss dropped their record down to 29-10. As for McAllen, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 29-9 record this season.

Nixon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for McAllen, they will take on Glenn at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Glenn comes in on three and McAllen on six.
