Softball Recap: Douglas Trojans vs. South Umpqua Lancers

Douglas extended their losing streak to eight on Friday, dropping them down to 6-11. They came up short against the South Umpqua Lancers, falling 18-3. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Lancers this season, with their most recent defeat being a 12-2 loss on Friday.

For South Umpqua's part, Regan Ireland was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up three earned runs off only one hit. What's more, Ireland posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, South Umpqua got a massive performance out of Shiloh Gilbert, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave Gilbert a new career-high. Gracie Richardson was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

Coming up, Douglas will welcome Pleasant Hill at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. As for South Umpqua, they will face off against Scappoose at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
