Volleyball Recap: Gregory-Portland's Winning Streak Snapped at Three Games

If Gregory-Portland was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Ray on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Gregory-Portland took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Calallen on Friday. Gregory-Portland's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

While Gregory-Portland had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 20 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-21, 18-25, 25-20, 25-23.

Despite the loss, Gregory-Portland still got an impressive performance from Sophia Davila, who had 25 digs and one assist. Another player making a difference was Kloey Cantu, who had 24 assists and 12 digs.

Calallen was led to victory by Amelia Hernandez and Amily Portales. Hernandez had 13 digs and three aces, while Portales had nine digs and three aces. Those three aces gave Hernandez a new career-high.

Gregory-Portland's loss dropped their record down to 21-14. As for Calallen, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 18 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-7 record this season.

Gregory-Portland and Calallen should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Wildcats (ranked 305th) will meet Alice (ranked 1042nd) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Calallen will take on King at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (155 vs. 784).
