Baseball Recap: Berthoud Gets the Win

While Berthoud's win against Northridge wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Spartans narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Grizzlies 4-2. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Spartans also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2024.

Wyatt Barmes made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He is becoming a predictor of Berthoud's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 1-5 when he doesn't). Barmes was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

Barmes wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Elisha Mosher, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

The win made it two in a row for Berthoud and bumps their season record up to 3-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Northridge, they dropped their record down to 0-10 with the loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Berthoud beat the Grizzlies by a score of 19-5 on Monday.
