Softball Game Preview: San Ramon Valley Wolves vs. Monte Vista Mustangs

San Ramon Valley is 8-2 against Monte Vista since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Wolves will look to defend their home field against the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. San Ramon Valley's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Monte Vista's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Tuesday, San Ramon Valley needed a bit of extra time to put away Amador Valley. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Dons 5-4.

Lila McLeod spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on 11 hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Addie Layous was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Kayden West, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Monte Vista fell victim to Granada and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Matadors. The Mustangs' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Monte Vista saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Frantz, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

San Ramon Valley is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-7-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Monte Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 6-11.

Everything went San Ramon Valley's way against Monte Vista in their previous matchup back in April, as San Ramon Valley made off with a 14-1 win. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
