Mercersburg Academy won the last time they faced Peddie and things went their way on Saturday too. The Storm put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 18-9 win. Considering the Storm have won six matches by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Peyton Appenzellar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks. She also set a new season-high mark in hits with four.
At the plate, Kamden Jenkins was a standout: she got on base in five of her six plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Emily Guzic was another key player, going 3-for-6 with one home run, two runs, and two doubles.
Mercersburg Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .395. They are 6-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The victory made it two in a row for Mercersburg Academy and bumps their season record up to 8-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.5 runs over those games. As for Peddie, they dropped their record down to 4-13 with the loss, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Looking ahead, Mercersburg Academy will square off against McConnellsburg at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.56 runs per game on average), something the Storm will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Peddie, they will head out on the road to face off against Trenton Central at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
