Softball Preview: Walton-Verona Bearcats vs. Holy Cross Indians        
        
		
            The Walton-Verona Bearcats will head out to  square off against the Holy Cross Indians  at 5:30  p.m.  on Wednesday. Both come into the  match bolstered by wins in their previous  matches.
Last Wednesday, Walton-Verona beat Dixie Heights 8-5. The  victory made it back-to-back  wins for the Bearcats.
 The team  relied heavily on  Eliza Alford, who  went a perfect 3-for-3 with two  stolen bases, one  run,  and one  RBI. Those  two  stolen bases gave  her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was  Kaitlyn Lemming, who  went 2-for-3 with one  stolen base, one  run,  and one  RBI.
Meanwhile,  winning is always nice, but doing so behind a  season-high score is even better (just ask Holy Cross). Everything went their way against Dayton on Monday as they made off with  a  24-7 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Indians needed considering they were shut out in their previous   contest.
Holy Cross got a  massive  performance out of  Zakyah Ryan, who  went 2-for-3 with two  stolen bases, three  RBI,  and two  runs.  Jordyn Rieselman also deserves some recognition as  she  hit her first  double of the season.
 Holy Cross  always had someone on base and  finished the game having  posted an OBP of .660. That's the best  OBP they've posted all season.
 Walton-Verona's record is now 5-13. As for Holy Cross, their record now sits at 8-6.
Both  the two teams just can't seem to miss. Walton-Verona has been making plenty of contact this season,  having  averaged 8.7  hits per game. However, it's not like Holy Cross struggles in that department as   they've been averaging  only 4.5  hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
 Walton-Verona skirted past Holy Cross  10-9 when the teams last played  back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bearcats since the  team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
