Baseball Game Preview: Russell County Warriors vs. Chattahoochee County Panthers

The Russell County Warriors are taking a road trip to challenge the Chattahoochee County Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Russell County and 16 for Chattahoochee County dating back to last season.

On Tuesday, Russell County didn't have quite enough to beat Smiths Station and fell 5-4.

Seth Erickson put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had over his last three games. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Colton Armstrong made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Grant Johnson also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Chattahoochee County lost 11-1 to Marion County on Friday.

Chattahoochee County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Kurovski, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases. Roger Goebel was another, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Russell County's record is now 5-10. As for Chattahoochee County, their record now sits at 0-14.

Everything went Russell County's way against Chattahoochee County in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Russell County made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Russell County since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
