League recap: Buena scores huge upset over Tucson

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Tucson, who took down 48th ranked Tucson, 45-42.

Skyline moved up to 52 from 90 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in I Section II. The Coyotes climbed the ranks as a result of a 56-13 win over the Coyotes.

Christian Davis was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 20 carries, he ran for 108 yards as Dobson bested Highland. Martin Tew also contributed to the rushing game with 61 yards on the ground.

Nathaniel Rodriquez made the biggest impact on defense this week as Desert Ridge beat Skyline. The 5-foot-10 strong safety recorded two fumbles.

Darell Garretson put up the best numbers through the air as Chandler lost to Mountain Pointe. He finished with 14 completions for 205 yards and two touchdowns. Garretson's favorite target this week was Patrick Baldenegro, who caught five passes for 83 yards.

Phillips was the best wideout in the league this week as the Bears topped the Hawks. Phillips racked up nine receptions for 95 yards. Rajhan Meriwether helped Basha's passing attack out by catching four balls for 38 yards.

6-foot-0 quarterback Garretson of the Wolves is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1110. He has also thrown 13 touchdowns. On the ground, the Jaguars' Tarek Morrison has rushed for 665 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Phillips. The Basha star has 33 catches for 552 yards.

The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Hamilton and Chandler. The Huskies enters the game ranked second in the state, while Shaun Aguano's team ranks 13th.

Two highly touted recruits will be in the spotlight when Hamilton and the Wolves meet this week. Steve Belles's team features well-regarded senior Cole Luke while Chandler has Bryce Perkins, a sought after sophomore.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Huskies take on the Wolves. Hamilton has allowed 68 points this season, while Chandler has given up 66. The Huskies allowed 10 points last week as they defeated Mesquite.

Hamilton was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from ninth to seventh in the league. The Huskies vanquished the Wildcats 38-10 earlier in the week.
