Baseball Recap: Fenwick Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against St. Laurence, Fenwick was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Loyola Academy Ramblers a 5-0 shutout. This was payback for the Friars, who suffered a 4-3 loss the last time these two teams met.

Matt Purta tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Fenwick is 6-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 11-14-1 otherwise.

At the plate, Ryan Lazewski was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most hits he has posted over his last 11 matches. Another player making a difference was Josh Morgan, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Fenwick's win bumped their record up to 17-15-1. As for Loyola Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-20.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fenwick will welcome Leyden at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. As for Loyola Academy, they will be playing at home against Mundelein at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Ramblers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
