The Perrysburg Yellow Jackets will square off against the Clay Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Perrysburg 3, Clay 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Perrysburg fell victim to Anthony Wayne and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Generals, falling 8-0. The Yellow Jackets have struggled against the Generals recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.
Perrysburg got a good showing from Andrew Charpie, who tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Charpie has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Perrysburg saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landon Winters, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Clay, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Southview a 3-0 shutout on Tuesday.
The result came thanks to Darin Fussell's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Clay is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8 otherwise.
Perrysburg's loss dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Clay, their win bumped their record up to 12-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Perrysburg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Clay struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Perrysburg took their victory against Clay in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-2 score. Will the Yellow Jackets repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
