Baseball Recap: Riverview Comes Up Short

Riverview came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 13-1 to the Steinbrenner Warriors. The Sharks have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Riverview got a good showing from William Barrios, who tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the first time Barrios hasn't allowed a single earned run since back in February.

On the hitting side, Peyton Newman was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Riverview's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 5-12 when he doesn't).

Riverview's defeat dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Steinbrenner, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Riverview will head out to take on Jefferson at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Steinbrenner, they will venture away from home to face off against Strawberry Crest at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Chargers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Warriors' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
