Recap: West Cowboys vs. Walnut Ridge Scots

The West Cowboys's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. The matchup between West and Walnut Ridge wasn't particularly close, with West falling 66-52. While losing is never fun, West can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 494th, while Walnut Ridge is ranked 185th).

Walnut Ridge was led to victory by Marquis Lucas and Deon Johnson. Lucas scored 16 points, while Johnson scored 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Johnson hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Deyaire Adams, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.

West's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 4-7. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Walnut Ridge, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.

West on the road again on Tuesday and play against South at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Walnut Ridge won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Dunbar at 11:30 a.m. on January 13th. Hopefully Dunbar focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Tuesday.
