Soccer Game Preview: Holly Springs vs. Middle Creek

The Holly Springs Golden Hawks will venture away from home to face off against the Middle Creek Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Holly Springs will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Middle Creek better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if Holly Springs' game on Monday is any indication, that's when Holly Springs really gets things going. The Golden Hawks blew past Green Hope 9-1. Considering Holly Springs have won nine matchups by more than two goals this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Their offense was hitting Green Hope from everywhere, as seven different players booted in a goal. Sorin Smith led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by herself.

Meanwhile, Middle Creek came up short against Apex Friendship on Monday, falling 8-2. While losing is never fun, Middle Creek can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 220th, while Apex Friendship are ranked 36th).

Holly Springs pushed their record up to 13-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 32 goals over those seven contests. As for Middle Creek, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-10.

Holly Springs took their victory against Middle Creek when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 5-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Hawks since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
