The Mitchell Bluejackets will face off against the Paoli Rams at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mitchell has four straight victories, Paoli has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Mitchell's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Corydon Central 10-0. With that win, the Bluejackets brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Boston True and Dasen Kerr did most of the damage at the plate: True went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run, while Kerr went 2-for-3 with two runs. Those two RBI gave True a new career-high. Bryson Zeeks was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Mitchell hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Corydon Central struck out nine times.
Meanwhile, Paoli scored first but ultimately less than Christian Academy in their game on Thursday. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Warriors. Rams fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Warriors since Thursday.
Kirkland Hughes and Justin Thornton stepped up to the plate in a big way. Hughes went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double, while Thornton earned one RBI, one run, and two stolen bases. That double marked the first that Hughes has hit this season.
Paoli's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Mitchell, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mitchell has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Paoli struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
