Baseball Game Preview: Pendleton County Wildcats vs. Mason County Royals

Pendleton County is 0-8 against Mason County since April of 2017 but things could change on Friday. The Wildcats will welcome the Royals at 5:30 p.m. Pendleton County will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

It was a proper cat-fight when Pendleton County challenged Ludlow on Thursday. The Wildcats walked away with a 6-1 win over the Panthers.

Colton Ortlieb spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Pendleton County is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 7-8-1 otherwise.

At the plate, Pendleton County's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ellis Shutters, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Those two hits gave Shutters a new career-high. Another was Micah Biddle, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Mason County came up short against Greenup County on Thursday and fell 8-3. That's two games in a row now that the Royals have lost by exactly five runs.

Pendleton County's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-9-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Mason County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.
