Softball Recap: Peotone Picks Up Fourth Straight Win at Home

Peotone had won four straight at home, but on Friday they bumped their record up to 8-8 to make it five. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over the Grant Park Dragons. The win continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Dragons: they've now won five in a row.

Sophie Klawitter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 17 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Peotone secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Autumn Clay, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Grant Park, they moved to 9-6 with that defeat, which also ended their six-game winning streak. They were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the three games prior), but Peotone's pitcher proved too tough.

On Grant Park's side, Reegan Thompson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Coming up, Peotone will head out on the road to take on Chicago Christian at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Blue Devils are facing the Knights at the right time seeing as the Knights are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Grant Park, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Gardner-South Wilmington at 4:30 p.m. The Dragons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
