Basketball Preview: Middle Creek Mustangs vs. Cary Imps

Middle Creek and the Imps are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Middle Creek Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Cary Imps at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Middle Creek has four straight victories, the Imps have four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Even though Middle Creek has not done well against the Golden Hawks recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Middle Creek took down the Golden Hawks 69-51. Given Middle Creek's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 51st, while the Golden Hawks are ranked 358th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Alysia Pergerson and Joi Pergerson were among the main playmakers for Middle Creek as the former scored 16 points along with five assists and five steals and the latter scored 30 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Pergerson has scored all season. Makiya Denee Mial was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds and six steals.

Meanwhile, Cary came up short against the Gators on Friday and fell 54-45. Cary has not had much luck with the Gators recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.

Middle Creek's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-3. As for Cary, their loss dropped their record down to 7-12.

Middle Creek strolled past the Imps in their previous meeting last Wednesday by a score of 62-47. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Cary's Nadia Snesarev, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Middle Creek still be able to contain Snesarev? There's only one way to find out.
