The Basic Wolves will head out on the road to square off against the Centennial Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Basic will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Basic is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Spring Valley, who was ranked 24th at the time (Basic was ranked first). The Wolves walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Grizzlies on Thursday.
Basic got a great performance from Lincoln Evans as he pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
On the hitting side, Dallon Cegavske was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. Lyndon Lee was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, Centennial didn't have quite enough to beat Birmingham on Tuesday and fell 6-4. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Centennial also got a good showing from Lando Baxter, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Baxter has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Tyler Jackson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Basic's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Centennial, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-9.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Basic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. However, it's not like Centennial struggles in that department as they've averaged .331. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Basic took their win against Centennial in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-2 score. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
