Volleyball Recap: New Castle Comes Up Short

New Castle was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Fishers Tigers. The Trojans were not able to make up for their defeat to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in September of 2024.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, New Castle sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The final score came out to 25-16, 19-25, 15-8.

Despite the loss, New Castle still got an impressive performance from Emily Luce, who had ten digs and one assist. Luce is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last 13 games she's played.

Fishers' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caitlyn Gutt, who had six digs and three aces. Katie Brinkruff was another key player, getting ten digs and two assists.

New Castle's loss dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Fishers, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 10-7 record.

New Castle has already played their next match, a 2-0 defeat against Plainfield on the 20th. As for Fishers, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 2-0 loss against Hamilton Southeastern on the 20th.
