Basketball Recap: Lucas Valdes' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Circle Christian over Lake Mary Prep

Circle Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They lost to the Lake Mary Prep Griffins on the road by a 85-68 margin. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Centurions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 71-50 on January 10th.

Circle Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Lucas Valdes, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. That's the most boards Valdes has posted since back in February of 2024. Joel Velazquez was another key player, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Circle Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Circle Christian's loss dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Lake Mary Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season.

Circle Christian won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Father Lopez at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lake Mary Prep, they will also get right back to it: they'll challenge Calvary Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
