Softball Game Preview: Mahanoy Area Golden Bears vs. Nativity BVM Green Wave

The Mahanoy Area Golden Bears will head out to square off against the Nativity BVM Green Wave at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mahanoy Area is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

Mahanoy Area came up short against Tamaqua on Monday, falling 8-1. The loss continues a trend for the Golden Bears in their meetings with the Blue Raiders: they've now lost nine in a row.

Mahanoy Area saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Mroczka, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Nativity BVM was not able to break out of their rough patch last Monday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They took a 13-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of Our Lady of Lourdes Regional. Even if the Green Wave couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Anna Jansson stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Lauren Clark, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Mahanoy Area's loss dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Nativity BVM, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-13.

Everything went Mahanoy Area's way against Nativity BVM when the teams last played back in March, as Mahanoy Area made off with a 13-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Bears since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
