Baseball Recap: Houston Triumphs

The matchup between Houston and Mabel-Canton on Thursday hardly resembled the 3-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Hurricanes had just enough and edged out the Cougars 11-10. The Hurricanes haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Morgan Rohweder was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up four earned (and six unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Houston is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 4-10 otherwise. Rohweder was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Coltin Groth was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zach Olson, who went 4-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base.

Houston always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They are 3-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Houston's record now sits at 7-10. As for Mabel-Canton, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Houston will venture away from home to take on Lyle/Pacelli at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Athletics will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Hurricanes surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mabel-Canton, they will face off against Rushford-Peterson at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
