Two dominant backs in Ryan Estrada and Jude Dunavin are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The El Dorado Aztecs will face off against the Amarillo Sandies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Amarillo will be up against a hot El Dorado squad: the team just extended their winning streak to six. The Aztecs simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat Parkland 59-21. Given the Aztecs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 78th, while the Matadors are ranked 638th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

El Dorado's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brycen Booth, who threw for 127 yards and two TDs. A healthy portion of that aerial production (82 yards to be exact) went to Jadarius Sanders, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
El Dorado was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 305 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Parkland only rushed for 128.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to El Dorado's defense and their four sacks. Korvel Taylor refused to say out of the backfield, picking up two sacks all by himself. El Dorado got some further help from Taylor: he picked up two sacks and made nine total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Amarillo's strategy against Tascosa on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Sandies blew the Rebels out of the water with a 63-21 final score. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 34-7.
Amarillo had a senior duo take command as Jett Lopez threw for 368 yards and seven touchdowns while picking up 14.7 yards per attempt and Austin Sluder picked up 184 receiving yards and five scores. Those 368 passing yards set a new season-high mark for Lopez.
El Dorado's record now sits at 9-1. As for Amarillo, their record is now 8-2.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. El Dorado has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 350.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Amarillo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 186.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
El Dorado took a serious blow against Amarillo when the teams last played back in November of 2024, falling 45-14. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Aztecs were down 21-0.
