Softball Recap: Chester Picks Up Fourth Straight Win on the Road

Chester challenged New Athens in a bug-themed battle on Wednesday. The Yellowjackets came out on top against the Yellow Jackets by a score of 7-3. The victory continues a trend for the Yellowjackets in their matchups with the Yellow Jackets: they've now won three in a row.

Maggie Caby was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Caby was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

In other batting news, Elaina Lutman was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last nine games she's played. Another player making a difference was Marlie Caby, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Chester was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March.

Chester pushed their record up to 13-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for New Athens, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-5.

Chester has already played their next contest, a 7-3 loss against Sparta on the 24th. As for New Athens, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 2-1 defeat against Dupo on the 24th.
