Recap: Dolores Huerta Prep Scorpions vs. Trinidad Miners

The Dolores Huerta Prep Scorpions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight defeat. They suffered a tough 41-17 defeat at the hands of Trinidad. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Dolores Huerta Prep in their matchups with Trinidad: they've now lost three in a row.

Several Scorpions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Faith Mendez, who scored four points along with six rebounds.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Dolores Huerta Prep struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Trinidad racked up 12 assists.

Layla Maes had a dynamite game for Trinidad, scoring 24 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Maes has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Monserrad Viera Flores, who scored no points along with seven rebounds and six assists.

Dolores Huerta Prep has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season. As for Trinidad, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.

Dolores Huerta Prep won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Thomas MacLaren School at 6:00 p.m. on February 13th. Dolores Huerta Prep comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 18 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Trinidad, they will head out on the road to face off against Custer County at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Trinidad is facing Custer County at the right time seeing as Custer County is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
