Baseball Recap: Friday's Loss Ends Manual's Winning Streak

After a string of four wins, Manual's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 14-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lincoln Lancers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lancers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 back in March.

Jesus Marquez was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Manual's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Andrew Hernandez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Manual's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-4. As for Lincoln, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-2.

Coming up, Manual will square off against Kennedy at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lincoln, they will take on Englewood at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The timing is sure in the Lancers' favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while the Pirates have been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
