Softball Recap: Highland Prep Comes Up Short at Home Against Payson

Highland Prep unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They came up short against the Payson Longhorns on Wednesday, falling 23-8. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it eight in a row.

Haley Miller made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Aneyka Angulo, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Even though they lost, Highland Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Coming up, Highland Prep will head out to take on Madison Highland Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Payson, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Globe at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
