Basketball Recap: Firebaugh Takes a Loss

Firebaugh suffered their closest loss since January 3rd on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Downey Vikings by a score of 58-55. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 947th, while the Vikings are ranked 355th).

Downey's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Earl Santos, who went 6 for 11 on his way to 18 points. The dominant performance gave Santos a new career-high in points. Shane Costello was another key player, going 6 of 9 en route to 12 points.

Firebaugh has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Downey, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Firebaugh will take on Bellflower at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Downey, they will venture away from home to square off against Paramount at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
