Basketball Recap: Chaparral Comes Up Short

It was a good run, but Chaparral unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They came up short against the Benicia Panthers, falling 66-45. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Cowboys came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 52nd in Nevada, while the Panthers are ranked 518th in California).

Despite the loss, Chaparral still got an impressive performance from Qualib Ghallab, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 boards. Ghallab has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 31 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dameion Curry, who posted seven points and eight rebounds.

Chaparral's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Benicia, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Chaparral wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 76-36 loss against Francis Parker on the 19th. As for Benicia, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-51 defeat against The Vine Christian Academy on the 19th.
