Softball Recap: River Ridge Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

After only one run in their last contest, River Ridge made sure to put some runs up on the board against Bellarmine Prep on Thursday. The Hawks were the clear victors by an 18-5 margin over the Lions. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Lahtecia Garduno Hatch and Alyssa Shandley made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Garduno Hatch tossed five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Shandley pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Garduno Hatch went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Shandley went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Lana Trinidad was a standout: she got on base in five of her six plate appearances with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Raylie Birklid, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.

River Ridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .638. They are 6-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

River Ridge's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-6. As for Bellarmine Prep, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

River Ridge has already played their next game, a 15-3 victory against Capital on the 18th. As for Bellarmine Prep, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 20-1 loss against Timberline on the 21st.
