Baseball Game Preview: Sunny Hills Lancers vs. Sonora Raiders

The Sunny Hills Lancers will head out to challenge the Sonora Raiders at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Sunny Hills will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Sunny Hills is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over South East on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Sunny Hills got a great performance from Oliver Botch as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 4.2 innings pitched. Botch has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Andrew Choi was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Andre Katayama was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Sunny Hills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Sonora suffered their biggest defeat since April 23, 2024 on Saturday. They lost 8-1 to Brea Olinda. The Raiders' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Sonora saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anthony Escamilla, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.

Sonora's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 9-6. As for Sunny Hills, their record now sits at 3-13.

Sunny Hills couldn't quite get it done against Sonora in their previous meeting back in March as they fell 5-2. Can the Lancers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
