Basketball Recap: Empire's Undefeated Season over After Three Games

It was a Battle of the Birds when Empire took on The Gregory School on Tuesday. The Ravens took a 61-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hawks. The Ravens were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Empire saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Isaac Buchanan shot 67% from the field en route to 21 points and five boards. Buchanan has also been stellar as far as shooting accuracy is concerned: he's posted one of at least 46% every time he's hit the court this season. Another player making a difference was Logan Kerby, who posted 11 points and five rebounds.

The Gregory School's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chase Butler led the charge by going 9-for-15 to rack up 21 points and four steals. That's the most steals Butler has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Namanny, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten boards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Empire fell to 2-1. As for The Gregory School, their record now sits at 3-1.

Empire has already played their next game (against Morenci), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for The Gregory School, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 76-46 loss against Palo Verde on the 4th.
