Volleyball Recap: Monticello Comes Up Short

Monticello was the 3-0 winner over Montezuma-Cortez when they last played one another back in August of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Buckaroo lost 3-0 to the Panthers on Friday.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-8, 25-21, 25-18.

Despite the loss, Monticello still got an impressive performance from Marlee Mack, who had 14 digs and one block. The team also got some help courtesy of Maron Freestone, who had five digs and one block.

Aubrie Matthias was the offensive standout of the match as she had eight digs and three aces. Those three aces gave her a new career-high.

Monticello's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Monticello didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Dove Creek on the 28th. As for Montezuma-Cortez, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-1 win against Ignacio on the 26th.
