Basketball Recap: School Without Walls Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Banneker

On Thursday, School Without Walls faced Banneker in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The School Without Walls Penguins fell just short of the Banneker Bulldogs by a score of 45-43. The loss continues a trend for the Penguins in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now lost eight in a row.

Several Penguins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sophie Whitaker, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Liliana Dietz, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 12 rebounds.

Even though they lost, School Without Walls smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Kylee Deskins continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Banneker, shooting 4-for-6 from long range and dropping a double-double with 20 points and 11 boards. Those 11 rebounds gave Deskins a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Imani Diallo, who posted six points along with 13 boards and five blocks.

School Without Walls' defeat dropped their record down to 15-5. As for Banneker, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 15-5.

As of now, neither School Without Walls nor Banneker have any future games scheduled.
