Baseball Recap: Terry Comes Up Short

Terry dropped down to 11-6 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 9-3 to the Hattiesburg Tigers. The Bulldogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tigers earlier this season, when they won 9-7.

Noah Nichols made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Terry's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 9-2 (and 2-4 when he doesn't).

As for Hattiesburg, the victory got them back to even at 9-9. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

On Hattiesburg's side, Andrew Jordan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. Jordan has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on D.J. Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Jacob Polk, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Terry will host Jim Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.36 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hattiesburg, they will be playing at home against Lumberton at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
