Baseball Recap: Speedway's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Speedway came into Friday's game having lost eight straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lawrence Central Bears on Friday, sneaking past 5-3. This was payback for the Sparkplugs, who suffered an 8-2 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Luke Chastain spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on four hits and racked up 13 Ks.

On the hitting side, Colten Thompson was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Lucas Devault also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-11-1. As for Lawrence Central, they dropped their record down to 3-11 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Speedway will host Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Sparkplugs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Braves have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Lawrence Central, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Kokomo at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
