The Mile High Academy Mustangs are taking a road trip to square off against the Rocky Mountain Lutheran Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mile High Academy's defense has only allowed 26.6 points per game this season, so Rocky Mountain Lutheran's offense will have their work cut out for them.
Mile High Academy will head into Monday's contest on the come-up: they were handed a heart-breaking three-point defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Victory Prep Academy on Monday. Mile High Academy took their match with ease, bagging a 49-10 victory over Victory Prep Academy. With the Mustangs ahead 36-3 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Mile High Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kylie Helm out in front who went 5 of 11 on her way to 13 points and six boards. Addy Dodds was another key player, putting up 13 points and five steals.
Mile High Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in nine consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Rocky Mountain Lutheran can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They escaped with a win against Denver Waldorf by the margin of a single free throw, 23-22.
Rocky Mountain Lutheran found their leader in freshman Katy Shade, who went 7 for 15 en route to 14 points and eight rebounds. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for Shade. The team also got some help courtesy of Gizelle Luna, who posted three points and three blocks.
Mile High Academy's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-3. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.6 points per game. As for Rocky Mountain Lutheran, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-10.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Mile High Academy has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 35.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Rocky Mountain Lutheran struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.8 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
