Softball Recap: Monday's Win Is Waterloo's Sixth in Last Seven Outings

Waterloo won the last time they faced Athens Bible and things went their way on Monday too. The Waterloo Cougars came out on top against the Athens Bible Trojans by a score of 11-7. Waterloo's victory was all the more impressive since the Trojans were averaging only 3.57 runs allowed on the season.

Georgiana Kavich made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mabry Ford, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in stolen bases. The team also got some help courtesy of Claire Cooper, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

Waterloo is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. Athens Bible has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Waterloo Cougars face off against Hughes Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Waterloo's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Hughes' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Athens Bible, they will head out on the road to challenge Decatur Heritage Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games Decatur Heritage Christian Academy has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
