Basketball Recap: Martin County Comes Up Short

If Martin County was riding high fresh off their 74-54 takedown of North Edgecombe on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Gators had to suffer through a 66-26 loss at the hands of the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars. The loss put an end to the Gators' undefeated start to the season.

It was another big night for A'Chonacey Mabry, who dropped a double-double with 28 points and ten steals for SouthWest Edgecombe. With that strong performance, Mabry is now averaging an impressive 16 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiedria Collins, who almost dropped a double-double with 23 points and nine boards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Martin County fell to 2-1. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Martin County will take on Gates County in a holiday battle at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, they will head out to take on West Craven at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The contest will give the Cougars their first taste of in-conference action this season.
