Softball Recap: Lopez Comes Up Short

Lopez extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 12-11-1. They fell 6-2 to the Edcouch-Elsa Yellowjackets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Yellowjackets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-2 back in March.

Lopez saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chalene Granado, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Edcouch-Elsa, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-7-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

On Edcouch-Elsa's side, Mila Pedraza spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up seven Ks. Pedraza has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Melody Soto was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Jennah Garcia was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Lopez has already played their next matchup, a 12-1 win against Mercedes on the 14th. As for Edcouch-Elsa, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 17-5 victory against Donna on the 14th.
