Softball Game Preview: Weeki Wachee Hornets vs. Springstead Eagles

Weeki Wachee is 0-10 against Springstead since March of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Hornets will head out on the road to take on the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Weeki Wachee has given up an average of 12.8 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Weeki Wachee came up short against Hernando on Tuesday, falling 19-3.

Meanwhile, Springstead entered their tilt with Cypress Creek on Wednesday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Coyotes, sneaking past 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted against the Coyotes since March 18, 2024.

Alivia Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kaylana Lyons was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Audrina Savarese was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Springstead's win bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Weeki Wachee, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.

Weeki Wachee suffered a grim 17-2 defeat to Springstead in their previous matchup on March 3rd. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
