Basketball Game Preview: Overton Mustangs vs. Cushing Bearkats

The Overton Mustangs will square off against the Cushing Bearkats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Overton's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while Cushing has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.

Last Tuesday, Overton took a blow against Tyler HEAT, falling 74-35. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 538th, while Tyler HEAT are ranked 104th).

Meanwhile, Cushing had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against New Summerfield on Tuesday as Cushing made off with a 54-33 victory.

Overton's loss dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Cushing, their win bumped their record up to 7-13.

Everything came up roses for Overton against Cushing when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as the squad secured a 65-37 victory. In that contest, Overton amassed a halftime lead of 28-6, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
