Baseball Game Preview: Shadle Park Highlanders vs. University Titans

The Shadle Park Highlanders are taking a road trip to square off against the University Titans at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Shadle Park came up short against Central Valley and fell 8-4. The Highlanders haven't had much luck with the Bears recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Mason Allison was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Shadle Park is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Tyler Yarger made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Evan Lafferty, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for University, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They came out on top against Ridgeline by a score of 6-1 on Tuesday.

University pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Shadle Park, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.

Everything went Shadle Park's way against University in their previous matchup back in March of 2017, as Shadle Park made off with a 9-2 victory. Will the Highlanders repeat their success, or do the Titans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
