Preview: Bonita Bearcats vs. Thousand Oaks Lancers
Bonita has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Thousand Oaks Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Bonita had no problem doing just that on Friday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 21-20 victory over Northview.
Bonita found their leader in underclassman Daniel Mielke ii, who threw for 271 yards and a touchdown. Noah Mikhail also helped out with an impressive 81 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Thousand Oaks had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.8 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They came out on top against El Modena by a score of 41-34. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Bonita pushed their record up to 9-2 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 Alta Loma and 2-8 Sierra Vista (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 32.5% over those games). As for Thousand Oaks, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
