Baseball Recap: Daviess County Comes Up Short

Daviess County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Somerset Briar Jumpers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 15-10 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2016.

Daviess County got a good showing from Nolan Johnson, who struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, Daviess County saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was John Rue, who went 1-for-2 with one run. That run marked the first that Rue has scored this season.

Daviess County's loss dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Somerset, their win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Daviess County will challenge Lexington Christian at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Somerset, they will face off against Grant County at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The Braves' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Briar Jumpers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
