Basketball Recap: Villa Angela-St. Joseph Takes a Loss

After flying high against Shaw last Saturday, Villa Angela-St. Joseph came back down to earth. The Villa Angela-St. Joseph Vikings were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 74-73 to the University School Preppers. The Vikings' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Loss or not, Villa Angela-St. Joseph got some senior leadership from Jeremiah Martin and Sean Shenker. Martin went 9 of 18 en route to 24 points and five assists, while Shenker posted 21 points and four steals. Another player making a difference was OJ Spikes, who put up eight points and 12 boards.

Even though they lost, Villa Angela-St. Joseph smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in March of 2024.

Villa Angela-St. Joseph's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for University School, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.

Villa Angela-St. Joseph has already played their next contest (against Trinity), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. University School will face off against Strongsville at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. One thing working in Strongsville's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
